Gardner Denver has teamed up with the endoscopic team at Shanghai’s Zhongshan Hospital to deliver an innovative vacuum pump solution, using a maintenance-free, low-energy rotary-vane pump from its Elmo Rietschle range.
Endoscopic surgery is a highly-skilled field and places specific demands on the hospital’s central vacuum system, requiring a solution that provides high reliability, simple maintenance and high environmental performance.
At the Zhongshan Hospital in Shanghai, the ‘Zhongshan Endoscope’ medical institution is renowned both at home and abroad, offering the most advanced equipment in the country, treating the largest number of patients each year, and providing the most comprehensive medical treatment program.
During more than ten years of partnership with the hospital, Gardner Denver’s Shanghai vacuum specialists have worked to create a comprehensive medical vacuum system that is equipped for the rigors of stringent hygienic and environmental standads.
Designed to meet the specific requirements of the institution, the Elmo Rietschle solution offers a compact design, continuous and stable vacuum, high reliability, low noise levels and no water pollution.
The low-energy, oil-lubricated rotary vane vacuum pump can reach 1200 m³/hr. The proven design guarantees stable and reliable operation and delivers high efficiency and low energy consumption, alongside simple maintenance, to provide the required levels of vacuum for the operating room.
The pump’s operation is extremely smooth, with low noise levels with the bearings running for up to 40,000 hours without replacement.
The Elmo Rietschle medical vacuum system includes vacuum suction, to absorb bodily fluids during surgery and an anaesthetic gas discharge system for the operating room. Using sophisticated electronic control, the anaesthetic exhaust gas is discharged through a vacuum pipeline to a sterilisation filter and then stored in a vacuum storage chamber.
In addition, the operating room’s dedicated anaesthesia gas discharge system is used to collect anaesthesia waste in the operating room. The system consists of a gas terminal, a vacuum line, a filter, a pressure control valve, a vacuum pump, an exhaust line and an electrical control cabinet.
