CompAir supplies the compressed air system at the Terengganu Gas Terminal (TGAST) in Malaysia
Gardner Denver won the EPC contract for supplying the compressed air system for Petronas’ Terengganu Gas Terminal (TGAST) in 2014 from Samsung Engineering Co. LTD, who had been awarded the multi-disciplined project management. Samsung entrusted Gardner Denver with the supply of air compressors, air dryer and nitrogen generation packages. TGAST is a state-of-the-art facility, which has the capacity to process up to 700 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas from the North Malay Basin, offshore Terengganu.
Our team carried out the plant design as a first step. The scope of supply included the design, fabrication, inspection, transportion, testing and commissioning of the compressed air equipment and plant systems including all accessories and elements necessary for its operation. The compressed air station consists of 3 oil-free screw compressors, 2 air dryer and 2 nitrogen generation packages, filters and accessories. The equipment was installed in a common skid including air dryer and nitrogen generation packages, except for the air receivers. In addition, we provided a master control panel, which manages the entire compressed air system equipment.
The unique design of the oil-free compressors included the two-stage oil-free screw compressor range which was designed with a focus on operational safety in demanding applications. The innovative clear construction delivered state-of-the-art performance, in-depth control and outstanding reliability. CompAir's own designed and manufactured airends work at constant low temperature levels and reduce the compressor’s lifecycle costs.
The nitrogen generation plant utilises a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) system, consisting of two adsorption towers filled with a carbon molecular sieve. Compressed and purified air is passed through the towers with oxygen being adsorbed to leave a nitrogen enriched gas – oxygen concentration can be reduced to the client’s own purity level requirements.
Compared to outsourced supplies, on-site nitrogen generation offers greater flexibility and has a significant impact on time and costs.
