Our Offering of Degassing Vacuum Pumps & Systems

What is Vacuum Degassing?

Degassing is an important pharmaceutical application. A vacuum is required for removing dissolved or trapped gasses from liquids and solutions. The process helps prevent product contamination and corrosion and shortens processing cycles. It improves the product's physical characteristics and quality, thus preparing them to allow for further processing.

Proven Performance

NASH systems are the premier choice for degassing vacuum applications in drug production. Our safe and reliable pumps help eliminate gas bubbles that can interfere with heat transfer and cause corrosion.  Equipped with cool running liquid ring technology, they can handle moist and explosive gas streams.

How Degassing Vacuum Pump Work

  • Degassing of a liquid is achieved by exposing the largest possible surface area of the liquid to a vacuum or low pressure environment.
  • Typical CDP vacuum ranges are 50 to 0.01 mbar, (40 – 0.0075 Torr)
  • Vacuum degassing can greatly reduce capital costs in low pressure processes. For example, degassing 1 kg h-1 of air at 50 mbar and 50 oC, say, requires only 19 m3h-1 of pumping capacity to pump the air alone. The same 1 kg h-1 of air at 0.1 mbar and 50 oC requires 9,264 m3h-1. This is without considering that the air will also be saturated with the condensable vapours which is an additional load to the vacuum system. This is one reason that there is always a degassing step at relatively high pressures before the main deodorization process at low pressures in fatty acid deodorization and other low pressure processes such as molecular and short path distillation.

Degassing Vacuum Applications

Our product portfolio consists of a complete range of engineered systems centred around reliable vacuum technologies. NASH provides tailor-made solutions for the following degassing applications:

  • The removal of CO2 and other impurities in the production of purified water
  • The removal of unwanted gasses to improve drugs and fine chemicals quality.
  • The removal of gasses in the production of gelatin capsules, plastics, resins, glues, adhesives and pastes.

Degassing is not the most common application for chemical dry pumps, (CDP), although there are some important niche applications, including degassing of:

  • Extruders (for production & fabrication of plastics)
  • Fatty acid deodorization
  • Resins
  • Paints and polymers
  • Glues and adhesives
  • Glycols and glycol mixtures
  • Synthetic fluids such as ester amides and other esters, silicone oils, fluorocarbon oils, (Fomblin)
  • Transformer and switchgear oils
  • Turbine lubrication and seal oils
  • Hydrocarbon oils in general
