Gardner Denver’s German Manufacturing Centre of Excellence Delivers for Customers

Gardner Denver Simmern, Germany Plant Investments Prove Successful as Productivity Gains are Delivered. Gardner Denver, has heavily invested in the centre of excellence at its Simmern production site in Germany, home to the CompAir ranges of compressors.

The project started in 2015 and since the completion end of 2016, new equipment has been installed, production processes have been optimized and the assembly techniques modernized. The Simmern production site has significantly increased the productivity, the production capacity and the flexibility to deliver an enhanced range of oil-lubricated, oil-free and portable screw compressors to customers around the world.

In addition, the existing assembly concepts of stationary systems have been converted into a continuous flow production system, which reduces time and costs. The "mixed-model lines" which have been introduced, provide the necessary flexibility to assemble various series at one production site. The investment in Simmern keeps the factory on the forefront by providing a platform for continuous improvement for the future.

"The growing convergence of design and construction skills is a key factor when it comes to the future provision of innovative and highly efficient screw compressor systems." explains Andreas Goerges, Head of Development. "The synergies resulting from the combined expertise allow us to continue to launch first class" products onto the market. The increasing digitalization and smart communication options of our compressors pose ever new challenges for the Simmern engineering team. In addition, the European Eco-Design Directive which is designed to achieve general energy savings and will also affect compressors in the future, will considerably change the product requirement profile and increase focus on continuous improvement." Andreas Goerges believes that the development of the Simmern site provides an excellent starting point in this regard.

The production site is best known for the manufacture of the CompAir compressor brand. In 2008, CompAir was taken over by Gardner Denver, the worldwide manufacturer of compressed air and vacuum solutions. Gardner Denver brings together many well-known compressed air and vacuums brands in the industry, including CompAir, Hydrovane, Belliss & Morcom, Reveall, Elmo Rietschle and Robuschi. This combination of businesses brings together technology, manufacturing and sales expertise, which has grown over a period of more than 200 years.
