Air Knives

An air knife is a tool used to blow off liquid or debris from products as they travel on conveyors. The knife consists of a high intensity, uniform sheet of laminar airflow (streamline flow). Blower powered air knives have proven to reduce energy consumption by 50-75% when compared to compressed air alternatives.

Carbon Black

Carbon black is produced by the reaction of oil or gas with a limited supply of combustion air at specific temperatures. The unburned carbon is collected as an extremely fine black particle. HOFFMAN & LAMSON multistage centrifugal blowers create a high volume of air at high pressure to force air through the process to enhance combustion efficiency. The airflow also carries the carbon particulate and exhaust gases through the quench tower and into the bag filters.

Coal Bed Methane Recovery

Coal bed methane is emerging as a source of clean energy. Extracting the coal bed methane allows mining at greater depths while improving safety and providing higher mining output. A single Hoffman & Lamson product can work as both a pump and blower, making it ideal for coal bed methane recovery.

Ethanol Production

Hoffman & Lamson products can be used in the various stages of ethanol production.

Carbon dioxide is given off during the fermentation stage or ethanol production, and some plants collect and market the gas. To do this, the gas must be removed and stored under pressure. Our multistage centrifugal blowers are used to draw off the carbon dioxide and transport it for storage in pressurized cylinders.

To maintain a clean and safe working environment ethanol facilities use robust HOFFMAN & LAMSON vacuum systems. Not only does this keep the receiving and storage areas clean, but it keeps the facility free of combustible dust , and compliant with OSHA regulations.

Fiberglass Manufacturing

In fiberglass manufacturing, batches of raw materials are prepared, then melted in a furnace. Temperatures must be precisely controlled to maintain a smooth, steady flow of molten glass. HOFFMAN & LAMSON multistage centrifugal blowers produce a reliable feed of combustion air, to help ensure a steady and accurate melting process.

Forced Air Oxidation In Wet FGD

In wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems, a scrubbing liquid containing an alkali reagent is used to enhance the absorption of SO2 and other acid gases. The wet FGD scrubber is designed for constant re-circulation of the reagent slurry, and is designed to operate at or near 100% capacity at all times. To maximize power production at all times, only minor variations in the flow should affect the forced oxidation blowers. To meet this demanding task, plants have trusted HOFFMAN & LAMSON blowers. For two decades we have supplied multistage centrifugal solutions, that come with lower initial cost and superior mechanical reliability when compared to high speed single stage blowers.

Froth Floation

Froth flotation, also called ore flotation when used in mining applications, is a method for physically separating particles by having air bubbles selectively adhere to specific surfaces. The particles with attached air bubbles are carried to the surface and removed. HOFFMAN & LAMSON multistage centrifugal blowers are custom made and designed to deliver a specific airflow and pressure, offering an efficient way to produce constant forced air with equipment known for its reliable and dependable performance.

Landfill Gas Extraction

The organic waste in landfills is covered and compressed by heavy equipment, creating conditions that leads to decomposition of the organic matter, resulting in methane gas. If allowed to build up, the gas can cause explosions. If leached into the atmosphere, the gas can contribute to smog as greenhouse gases. To maintain safety and comply with environmental regulations, the gas can be flared or cleaned to pipeline quality. HOFFMAN & LAMSON multistage centrifugal exhausters are used in both processes to draw the methane gas from the landfill.
